Haunted by the beautiful melody but don't know where to find it... the music Crystallized Beauty by Phillip Sheppard, was the theme music for ITV's season of Jane Austen films. Here is a link to a beautiful montage of photos set to the music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SWdMIfMxQs

The results are in!
You may recall that we were contacted earlier this year for assistance in participating in the Jane Austen Survey 2008. It turned out there was no difficulty in hearing from avid fans of Jane -- more than 4,500 Janeites responded. The results were presented at a breakout session at the Chicago AGM last month.
I thought you might be interested in the summary survey results report, which is now posted at: http://www.janeaustensurvey.org/

JASNA-NY invites you...Dress in the Regency Period

BIRTHDAY MEETING - SUNDAY, DECEMBER 14
at 2:00 p.m. General Society Library, 20 West 44th Street
(between Fifth & Sixth)
We are delighted that the well known designer and fashion historian, Daniel Cole, will present an illustrated talk on Regency clothing explaining many of the intriguing mysteries of both women's and men's clothing.
What, for example, are half-boots? Were women's dresses actually wetted down to make them cling? Why were knee britches for formal attire and pantaloons for daytime? These and many other fascinating facts about clothing in Jane Austen's time will be explored. And, as a special treat, members of our own Juvenilia will model examples of Regency clothing selected by Mr. Cole from the Theater Development Fund's Costume Collection. What would such a meeting be without members in costume? This is your opportunity to show off your Regency era finery. So, come and enjoy a delicious tea, small groups "talking Jane", and a birthday toast to Jane Austen herself on her 233rd birthday!
You click on Registration Form to print the form from there. If you have any questions, please email us at http://us.mc564.mail.yahoo.com/mc/compose?to=jasnany@yahoo.com

#69: Enough With The Jane Austen Worship
I like Jane Austen as much as the next novel-writing-and-reading middle-aged woman, which is to say, a lot. Which is really to say, way, way too much.
Do we actually need a whole genre of books about modern Jane Austen lovers, entire clothing lines devoted to Jane Austen wear, multiple tour companies eager to guide you through Jane Austen locales? How about lessons in how to take tea, dance, cook, garden, and of course write a la Jane Austen? There are Jane Austen Festivals and Jane Austen book groups, Jane Austen dolls and Jane Austen tee shirts, Jane Austen movies and Jane Austen bloggers.

Geography of Jane
Austen always names the county in which a novel’s action is set and often mentions cities and landmarks, though her villages and estates are invented. This section reproduces maps of the novels from Where’s Where in Jane Austen . . . and What Happens There, by Patrick Wilson, published by the Jane Austen Society of Australia. The maps include both real and fictional places, and the book provides information about more than 400 locations in Austen’s fiction. It is available for purchase on JASA’s web site.
