Jane Austen Juvenilia now available as MP3 download

The Beautiful Cassandra

A selection of the juvenilia of Jane Austen

Now Available as an MP3 Download from Crimson Cats Audio Books

Most people know Jane Austen for Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Persuasion and the other novels. Less well known is the fact that she started writing at the age of 8 and many of her early stories were dedicated to her family and friends. The six pieces in this collection were all written when she was between the ages of 12 and 15. They show a light hearted, humorous approach to storytelling as well as the sharp observation of character which is such a feature of her mature work.

This collection is introduced by Jean Bowden, the retired curator of Jane Austen House, Chawton , England and includes the following stories:

· The Beautifull Cassandra
· Jack and Alice
· Mr. Harley
· Henry and Eliza
· Amelia Webster
· The History of England (extracts)

The stories are read by Teresa Gallagher who has performed many leading roles in plays and musicals in London 's West End and Off Broadway. She is a well known voice to listeners of audio books, having recorded such readings as the Biography of Jane Austen, the Emily Windsnapp series, The Treasure Seekers and Bleak House.

The piano is played by Peter White. All the music is taken from music books owned by Jane Austen herself and is played on a Clementi square piano, identical to the one Jane used. This one stands in the reception area of Jane Austen's house in Chawton.

By the way, in case you think we can’t spell, Jane herself spelled “Beautifull” with a double “ll”, as can be seen in her manuscript (copy of the first page comes with the MP3 download).

This audio book is available as an MP3 download or as an audio CD from the Crimson Cats website http://www.crimsoncats.co.uk/ Customers can use their credit card to pay in their own currency through the PayPal system.
