Hi, everyone --
I'm delighted to announce that my book on Jane Austen fans -- Among the Janeites: A Journey Through the World of Jane Austen Fandom -- will be published this Tuesday by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. I'm sorry to intrude this marketing message into your busy lives, but, alas, relentless self-promotion is the name of the game in modern-day publishing.
Among the Janeites profiles a host of ordinary people who just happen to be crazy about Jane Austen – among them, a Canadian speech pathologist who thinks Austen wrote about autism, a Florida lawyer who is pursuing a byzantine theory about hidden subtexts in the novels, a Texan with a closetful of Regency gowns, and a writer of Jane Austen fan fiction who found her own Mr. Darcy while reimagining Pride and Prejudice. To quote the jacket copy: "Part chronicle of a vibrant literary community, part memoir of a lifelong love, Among the Janeites is a funny, touching meditation on the nature of fandom."
The book is available for purchase in all the usual places, and more information can be found on my web site (www.deborahyaffe.com), on Facebook (www.facebook.com/AmongTheJaneites) or via Twitter (@DeborahYaffe). I’ll also be signing books during the Jane Austen Society of North America’s annual meeting in Minneapolis next month.
As per the wholerelentless self-promotion thing, if you do read the book and enjoy it, I'd be most grateful if you'd consider posting a review on Amazon or Goodreads, sharing the news on your Facebook pages, or using any other method you have to get the word out. As an author friend of mine once said, new books have the shelf-life of yogurt, so the chance to make an impression on an indifferent world is brief!
Thanks so much --
Deborah

Hi Janeites! Thank you for visiting our website. We invite you to comment on our content. Of course, Lady Catherine would believe us all to behave like gentlemen and ladies, so please let us not disappoint her.
Also, please leave comments in English, as only Lady Catherine, had she ever studied a foreign language, would be a great profient enough to read such comments. (Merci! Arigato! Gracias!)
