Book Recommendations - Love and Friendship & Lady Susan
The picture above is from the new film adaption of Jane Austen's Lady Susan. The movie is titled Love and Friendship (if you're like me you are kind of wondering if Whilt Stillman is going to pull in some of that famous fainting from that story into the movie).
If you've limited your Austen reading to her six complete novels you've missed out on some great writing!
You can read Lady Susan and Love and Friendship by following the links. Love and Friendship is part of Jane's Juvenilia collection and Lady Susan was one of her earlier works written before her novels.
Lady Susan is a short epistolary novel written between 1793 and 1795. The story follows the schemes of the widowed Lady Susan—as she seeks a new husband for herself and one for her daughter.
If you enjoyed Lady Susan or would like to get a different take on the story, there are two novels you can check out. The first is Lady Susan by Phyllis Ann Karr.
The second novel, Lady Vernon and Her Daughter is by the New Jersey mother/daughter team of Jane Rubino and Caitlen Rubino-Bradway. In 2009, we had a wonderful meeting with the pair where we discussed the book.
Happy Reading!

Hi Janeites! Thank you for visiting our website. We invite you to comment on our content. Of course, Lady Catherine would believe us all to behave like gentlemen and ladies, so please let us not disappoint her.
Also, please leave comments in English, as only Lady Catherine, had she ever studied a foreign language, would be a great profient enough to read such comments. (Merci! Arigato! Gracias!)
