President's Day - History Repeats

Honestly, I'm off on what day of the week it is and needed to find a quick post.  I'm repeating a post from 2012. Sorry I'll do better the rest of the week. - A.

Today we celebrate Presidents' Day, a day intended to celebrate all of our presidents with emphasis on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Today I thought I would focus on those presidents who were in office during Jane's life and the end of the Regency period.

So what was going on in America between 1775 and 1820?

1775-1783 Revolutionary War
1776 The United States officially declares independence/Creation of the Articles of Confederation.
1788 Constitution Ratified
1789-1779 George Washington
1797-1801 John Adams
1801-1809 Thomas Jefferson
1809-1817 James Madison
1817-1825 James Monroe

Jane Austen Ornaments

Alethea, from the Southeastern Virginia region of JASNA, makes some adorable ornaments.  Here are a few examples of her work.
PERSUASION - Blue, for Captain Wentworth's Naval service
SENSE & SENSIBILITY - Red, for Colonel Brandon's Army service
EMMA - Hunter Green, for Mr. Knightley's fashionable but humble dress

Message from Alethea:
I handcraft a set of six Jane Austen ornaments, 3" circular clear ornaments filled with strips cut from Jane's six published novels, one novel per ornament. Each comes with a different colored ribbon on top, based on my impression of that book's hero, as follows:

PRIDE & PREJUDICE - Black, for Mr. Darcy's impeccable style
MANSFIELD PARK - Brown, for Edmund's unassuming air
SENSE & SENSIBILITY - Red, for Colonel Brandon's Army service
PERSUASION - Blue, for Captain Wentworth's Naval service
EMMA - Hunter Green, for Mr. Knightley's fashionable but humble dress
NORTHANGER ABBEY - White, for Mr. Tilney's religious collar

You may view pictures of each ornament, complete with tag (in Jane Austen font) here:

A full set of six ornaments is only $45, and would be GREAT for any December events your chapters may be having to celebrate Christmas and/or Jane's birthday. Many groups have purchased sets as raffle items for their events. With the set comes two free baggies of book confetti, in snowflake shape, perfect for tossing on a side table as a decoration or sprinkling in a handwritten letter (Jane would never have emailed...). Extra confetti can also be purchased in bulk for 50 cents/bag for 10+ bags.

I accept payment by Paypal, and 95% of all money earned from the sale of these ornaments goes back to JASNA, so it's a great way to celebrate our favorite author, give a great gift to a friend, or provide a fun item at a raffle in December to help raise money for your individual regions.

I can be reached at this email address.
